Bird Monitoring
BirdLife Mornington Peninsula members are engaged in the following bird monitoring programs:
Hooded Plover Counts & Nest Monitoring
Counts of the Hooded Plovers are
conducted monthly on a Thursday late in each month.
The date and time of each survey are determined by when high tide occurs.
During the breeding season (from
October through to and including March), we also do
weekly nest monitoring. Dates and times are chosen by those doing
the monitoring, but again
usually are determined by the tides.
Westernport Survey
Hanns Inlet (HMAS Cerberus) is
monitored at low tide from a boat, three times a year in
February, July and November.
Program
We usually start the wetland and
golf course monitoring at 8:00am, but
check with the leader,
as we often start earlier in the hotter months.
